Berzarin, Colonel General Nikolai,
1904–1945
   In 1939 Berzarin led the 32nd Infantry Division at Lake Khassan against the Japanese. Throughout the rest of World War II he commanded various armies: at the Battle of Jassy- Kishiniev, in Poland and in Berlin. Berzarin was the Soviet Army Commander who led the first Soviet troops into Berlin in April 1945. He was appointed the first military commandant of Berlin after the war but died in a motorcycle crash before he could achieve anything.
